HOW DOES ONE OBTAIN COPYRIGHT PROTECTION?
Maybe you have heard about the Berne Convention. It is old news now. It was big news in 1989. It is an international convention of copyright law. For our purposes, it says that a creator of protectable work does not have to do anything to get copyright protection under the convention. Under the Berne Convention, you, as the artist, do not have to do anything to secure your rights. However, you will not be able to take advantage of the full power and extent of the U.S. Copyright law if you do nothing.
