How does one monitor therapeutic response in CML?
ER: The most common test to determine a patient’s response and progress is by complete blood counts analysis and automated platelet counting. Blood sample is drawn from one’s arm for automated analyses while peripheral smear counts are done manually from finger pricked blood. Good response to the drug would be seen as normalization of blood counts and platelets, in which case the patient is deemed to be in complete hematologic remission (CHR).
