How does one go to Antarctica and what kind of transportation is used there?

For most people involved with the U.S. Antarctic Program, which is run by the National Science Foundation, the most accessible place is the McMurdo Station because that’s where the airplanes between Christchurch, New Zealand, and Antarctica go to and from. Some other nations fly people to their bases in Antarctica, but many go by ship either from New Zealand or South America.
