Going there by train for a weekend visit is not really practical as you would spend way too much time travelling and then not have much time to spend in Amsterdam to be honest You best bet is by plane. Transavia and KLM run direct services (with Swiss Iar, Lufthansa and a couple others doing it with a stopover) http://www.skyscanner.net/ and if you book in advance, Transavia does some good fares. However, fares are mariginally more expensive on Friday & Sunday nights because of weekend travellers and commuters. Once you get to Schiphol (Amsterdam airport) then it is a 15min train journey from the airport to the centre of town.
