How does one fight kashrut forgeries?
Use a kashrut sticker with a hologram. The Chief Rabbinate in Israel is currently looking into the option of equipping kosher products with a sticker bearing a glowing, three-dimensional hologram that will be very difficult to forge. The hologram on the stickers will be similar to those stamped on money bills. They will be produced abroad. Similar stickers are already in partial use by private kosher inspectors, and now they want the rabbinate to require all importers and manufacturers to use them. A meeting was held to discuss the issue in which various manufacturers presented their stickers to the Chief Rabbi of Israel, Yonah Metzger. It was decided that due to the high unit price of the stickers, NIS 1.5 per sticker, they will be affixed only to large cartons and not to individual products. “If there are 35 units in a carton, the cost of this unique sticker falls to less than a cent per unit.
