How does one evoke kundalini shakti?
Awakening the Sacred Power (the Serpent) and Evoking the Comforter (Adi Shakti); a Westernized approach to Kundalini.
You will need to be familiar with the 7 principle Chakras & their location; Wikipedia or Google will quickly help out with this.
The Westernized system I studied referred to the Chakras as Minds or Centers.
The Serpent lies coiled (3½ coils) in our Sacrum Bone between the 1st & 2nd Chakra. "Sacrum" means "Sacred" in Latin, this is NOT just a coincidence, and it forms a downward pointing triangle. It turns out that Esoteric Knowledge lies hidden all around us, but that’s what "Esoteric" means isn’t it?
It is going to take a while and practice, practice, practice to awaken the Serpent.
The Universal Energy of Life ("Use the Force Luke!") enters and leaves the body through the soles of our feet.
Its ebb and flow is synchronized with our breathing but in reverse to what you might commonly imagine.
It enters when you exhale and leaves when you inhale.
It helped me to imagine that filling the lungs pushed it out & emptying them drew it in.
Develop a slow consistent measured rhythm; inhale slowly, pause, exhale slowly, pause & repeat.
The trick lies with our intent and in our imagination & our ability to visualize or pre-visualize (Seeing with the Minds Eye).
Our imagination is a tool but in the uninitiated (most folks on the planet) it is likely an undisciplined & cluttered chatterbox, you’ll want to work on that. You be developing your "Will" as in "thy Will be done."
You don’t want to be distracted with worries, emotionally agitated or fidgeting around.
Consider this following practice to be a meditation and it will help.
You’ll want to be lying down flat on your back, arms to you side, or sitting in a chair or sitting in the Lotus position if you prefer, or even can (I’ve never been able to myself, my muscles are too bound by advanced glycation end products).
Start out by taking 3 measured breaths and with each breath imagine the energy entering through the soles of your feet , rising to the 1st Chakra and filling it, then flowing back out and leaving through the soles of your feet.
Then 3 more breaths rising through the 1st and into the 2nd.
Then 3 more breaths rising through the 1st, 2nd and into the 3rd.
Then 3 more breaths rising through the 1st, 2nd, 3rd and into the 4th.
Then 3 more breaths rising through the 1st, 2nd, 3rd, 4th and into the 5th.
Then 3 more breaths rising through the 1st, 2nd, 3rd, 4th, 5th and into the 6th.
Then 3 more breaths rising through the 1st, 2nd, 3rd, 4th, 5th, 6th and into the 7th.
That make 7 sets of 3 breaths each.
All this time you’ve been imagining the energy entering, rising, filling, descending & leaving through the soles of your feet.
But now with the next 3 breaths you’ll imagine the energy leaving by cascading out of the top of your head (the 7th "Crown" Chakra) instead of being pushed back down and out the soles of your feet. Imagine it as though it were a fountain spraying up, out, down and around your body forming an egg shaped protective cocoon around you.
The Crown Chakra lies just under the Fontanelle, the soft spot on top of newborn babies heads. "Fontanelle" means "Fountain" in French, again this is NOT just a coincidence.
You’ll now effectively be pumping this energy up through your feet and out of your crown then down and around and back up into your feet again, over & over again in a continuously flowing cycle.
After the 3rd breath you may continue with this cycling for as long as you like (for a total of 7, 13 or 21 times perhaps or some other sacred number) OR start the exercise all over again OR stop here and practice it again the next day.
So far this is NOT the energy of Kundalini but the Universal Energy of Life.
By practicing this you’ll be developing your imagination and intent.
You’ll also be visualizing, clearing and opening the path that the Serpent will take.
A note here about the Universal Energy of LIfe. It’s always sort of "trickle charging" our own "battery" which is the "Root" or 1st Chakra. Our battery has a certain capacity and if it is ever completely depleted we die (just the same as riding a horse to death – it’s interesting that they’ll let us do that but that’s what having dominion means). The Energy, once stored in our battery, can be used coarsely (low frequency, high amplitude) or refined (high frequency, low amplitude). ALL negative emotions, actions and thoughts are coarse and quickly consume our energy. Surely you’ve noticed how exhausted you can feel after a bout of anger or frustration or under other negative circumstances. The higher up the Chakras ("The Tree of Life") you wish your energy to ascend the greater the "charge" must be and the more refined it must be to do so. "Right Living" & "Right Actions" & "Right Thought" will really help out with the "refining" process and help in conserving your energy for "higher" purposes.
At some point, when you’re clear enough, the energy will be flowing freely and vibrating fast enough to awaken the Serpent and it will follow the flowing energy and ascend through your Chakras with it. It may not ascend all the way at times due to blockages or because your own energy is insufficient or vibrating to slowly that day but keep practicing and the Serpent itself will now help clear these out. "…straight is the gate, and narrow is the way, which leadeth unto life, and few there be that find it."
You’ll be able to feel your Chakras opening under the Serpents influence as it ascends, like flowers opening to the warmth of the morning Sun (it’s not for nothing that the Chakras are shown as many petaled flowers in Eastern art) and they may start "singing" each with it’s own distinct note. Your heart Chakra will radiate as though the Sun has risen in your chest, the warmth is remarkable. At some point you may start grinning like a love struck idiot. And with the opening of your 6th & 7th Chakra the Comforter (the Paraclete, Mah di, Adi Shakti, Ma Treya, Aykaa Mayee, otherwise known as the Holy Spirit) will descend upon and come over you. Very similar to being held in the arms of your father as a young child without a care in the world.
The more you practice the more frequently you’ll be able to evoke this and the longer the duration will last.
After a year or so of working on getting clear, that is working on my imagination (Raja Yoga) and feelings (Bhakti Yoga) and with some familiarity with "right breathing" or breath control (Prana Yoga) I was able to evoke the Serpent after about 3 more months of using the above technique. Note that I did NOT specifically practice these yogas as they are taught and practiced in the East but simply worked on being a mature, responsible, adult human being in right living, acting and thinking as such.
Note that a VERY good place for Westerners to start practicing "Right Living, Acting & Thinking" is while driving. If you find yourself cursing out those around you, acting impatiently or getting frustrated and angry, guess what, you’ve got work to do. Then look to your home and workplace for similar circumstances because family members, bosses and co-workers often "push our buttons" – this is what’s alluded to when it is said that others are here to teach us. And don’t forget the Barista at your coffee shop.
This is NOT a Doctoral Presentation nor is it meant to be a MacDarmas Drive Through to Enlightenment but it is rather an introduction to the possibilities that worked for me and may work for you as well.
Namaste and God Bless. -Hunab Ku
Be very careful with the kundalini. It’s easy to take for granted or not believe in it until you actually experience it. I really believe the kundalini shoudn’t be tampered with and those who teach to use it may not believe there’s other ways to raise consciousness. If the kundalini is awoken in the wrong way or if one isn’t ready to handle it’s force. It can become very very painful and distresing. Once it’s awoken it’s very hard to relax it. if it gets pulled to your 3rd eye, it may cause an unbearable magnetic-like pressure on the forehead, which isn’t physically visable or detectable. It’s an inner force, that’s very difficult to describe. Trust me, if it awakens, you know. At first you might think it’s a super pro-visional spiritual change, but in short time, it can turn into a pressure on the forehead or top of head that is so intense and a pain inside the mouth, that is best described as a burning sensation, only without the heat. Psycologically, it’s induces terror and unending
