How does One-ED support the redesign of our work processes?
Another significant part of One-ED has to do with reengineering work that is under way in a number of functional areas in the Department, including human resources and training, payment processing, audit review, legal review and postsecondary education policy. This is part of a strategic investment process, which is designed to ensure that the Department’s various major work processes are carried out with as much efficiency and effectiveness as possible. When I first came to the Department, I heard many frustrations voiced about how long it takes to hire people, how difficult it is to process travel or other payments, or how difficult it is to award a contract. I believe we can do better at all of these activities, and that reengineering is the first step toward doing so.
