How does OMRI determine whether synthetic growth media is allowed for use in the production of microbial products?

0

For microbial products with synthetic growth media remaining in the final product, the compliance of the media is dependant on the intended use of the product. For pesticides, all synthetic media that appear in the final product are allowed if they are defined as allowed inert ingredients on the National List. For livestock feed ingredients, processing ingredients and processing aids, any agricultural substances used as growth media that remain in the finished product must be certified organic. Synthetic livestock minerals used as microbial growth media and identified in Appendix A of the OMRI Policy and Standards Manual may remain in the finished product for products within the Livestock Feed Ingredient class only.
