For international institutions using a semester system, semester hours will be converted into quarter hours. For other international institutions, the maximum number of credit hours that can be awarded for a year’s work is 48 quarter hours. The 48 hours is portioned out to each course according to the relative unit value of all courses. The actual credit awarded by our office may be less than 48 hours. For example, Ohio State does not award credit for English composition courses taken in a country where English is not the native language. In addition, no credit is awarded for courses completed with a grade lower than C-.
