How does off site data hosting work?
It works like this. Your data is usually farmed out to an ASP (application service provider) which could be anywhere in or out of the country. The ASP rents floor space in a facility that provides reliable electric and internet service to his cabinet of computer equipment. Within this cabinet, the ASP houses your data and program along with that of his other clients. It is important to emphasize that neither your data nor your tire software is on your local computer. It’s all on the ASP’s computer. What you do get is “client” software that allows your computer to connect to the ASP over the internet or some other connection. By running the “client” software you convert your PC into a “dumb terminal” that is wired to the ASP. The “client” software on your computer sends your keyboard presses and mouse clicks to the ASP and receives screen shots of what’s happening remotely to be displayed on your monitor.
