How does off-campus work authorization differ from on-campus employment at an off-campus location?
Off-campus work authorization requires case-by-case approval from DHS. Approval is not based on the student’s choice of employer. On-campus employment at an off-campus location is available to all F 1 students except border commuter students. DHS approval is not required. However, the employment must be for an employer educationally affiliated with your school. For more details please see the section about on-campus employment.
