How does NIAMS set its research priorities?
NIAMS considers many different perspectives, including the opinions of experts in the field as well as public input, in establishing its research priorities. A competitive peer-review system then identifies the most promising and highest quality research to address these priorities. These evaluations are used by the NIAMS Director and staff to determine which projects to fund.
