How does Nestlé Waters North America impact local spring water resources?
Protecting our springs is both crucial for the communities in which we operate and for our business. While we are a visible user in those communities, we collect only a relatively small amount of the available water. In most cases, state authorities, through a permitting process, determine how much water we can safely and sustainably withdraw. Extensive testing studies the size of the aquifer, how much water is already being used, and the rate at which the water recharges from rainfall and snowmelt. We employ 11 full-time natural resource managers who monitor our spring sources and manage them for long-term sustainability. Additionally we invest $8 million annually to maintain our spring water sites and their surrounding recharge areas. To protect local watersheds, habitats and preserve open space, we maintain over 14,000 acres of land around our spring sources.
