National Geographic Windows on Literacy links guided and independent reading in one straightforward package by offering 40 Independent Reading Books at a slightly simpler reading level than the 40 Guided Reading Books at the same Band (4 per Book Band level). Following guided reading with a book from a particular Band, children can select any independent title from the same Band, or the teacher can guide children to an appropriate book which they really will be able to read independently.
