How does mood-enhancing medicine work?

0

If someone you love dies, a med. will not change your sadness. Sad things happen, but most people don’t need to take meds to deal with things. However, if you become so depressed that you cannot function: Can’t get out of bed; bathe; have insomnia; oversleep; lose your appetite or it increases a lot; can’t work or do schoolwork; have no interest in things; don’t enjoy things you used to; etc. than taking a mood enhancer may be able to help the person feel better enough to take advantage of talking in therapy & increasing their functioning. You are right, people find things sad, or happy, or whatever. However, there are times when changes in one’s brain chemicals occur & this causes one not to be able to function well or be able to think realistically to be able to function. The meds keep the brain chemicals (neurotransmitters) in the spaces (synapses) of the brain where they work to keep your mood balanced. Hope that helps.
