How does Mike adjust his Max Stax cymbals?
MP: Like anything with drumming, there is no right and wrong…it is all up to the drummer and their taste. I keep my Stax tightened somewhere in the middle between loose and tight. I’ve found that too loose creates too much decay for me (I prefer the stax to be very quick)….but too tight chokes the cymbals too much and there is a distinct metallic overtone that occurs from the cymbals rubbing against each other. Somewhere in the middle you’ll find the sweet spot that I like.
