Medicaid is a form of insurance. What this does is offer medical/dental insurance for those that don’t have access to it. For some, if they are financially able, this means that they pay some sort of co-pay. For others, this means that they get their medical bills taken care of. The stickler is finding those that accept medicaid as a form of payment. Many private practices don’t accept it, thus forcing people to seek other insurance. In our area, there is only one private practicing dentist that accepts it, and the only other place is the dental facility connected with our public clinic. This means that someone on medicaid needing dental care may have to wait for up to a year for an appointment. And God help you if you can’t make that appointment due to work, a medical emergency or some other conflict when the appointment comes around. Medicaid is government offered insurance.
