How does Loyola fill and distribute prescription medications to hospitalized patients?
Loyola is the first hospital in the Midwest to use an advanced system of robotics to distribute prescription medications to hospitalized patients. The two-armed robot places single doses of medication in small plastic bags. Each bag has a bar code that identifies the drug, along with its intended patient. This new technology is designed to eliminate the type of life-threating human medication errors that injure or kill up to 400,000 people per year.
