How does lower back strengthening exercises help dancers?
More important than strong hips and lower back, are strong abdominal muscles and gluteal muscles to strongly support a dancer’s center of gravity while their limbs are moving around the body. If a dancer can’t support their torso, they will struggle to counter balance their body and often fall over. Control of the torso achieves an effortless look, and keeps a dancer from falling over during a performance. Dancers need a lot of flexibility in their hips to allow the leg to rotate in all directions, and for leg turnout like ballet dancers where the leg points to the side instead of to the front. Dance training helps a dancer develop and maintain this flexibility. If you mean bone strength in the hips and lower back, then you should have healthy bone density to begin dance training. Dancers will improve their bone density from their high impact exercises.
