How does lithography work?
Instead of etching an image into metal plates or carving the image, a lithograph uses greasy crayons or pencils to create a mirror image of the original work on a stone tablet. Oil based ink is then applied to the greasy crayon markings and immediately bonds to it. Then water is used on the remaining areas to prevent the ink from smearing. A cotton sheet is put on top of the stone tablet and then both are put into a press and pressure is applied.
