How does life in South Africa compare to the other countries in Africa?
South Africa,s GDP in our Gauteng province alone (sure it is very much our financial flagship) is greater than the national GDP of all African countries bar Egypt. Furthermore SA has a sound infrastructure, is industralised and enjoys rich natural resources. So this already tells you that South Africa in terms of quality of life is generally better than most African countries. A highish middle income family can afford a home, more than one car, a maid and private schooling for their children and enjoy a couple of vacations each year. However, having said this one must remember that income and distribution of wealth in SA is extremely uneven and there is still a very high percentage of citizens living in poverty. In fact, in some of our rural communities the quality of life is very much on a par with many other African countries where existence is the name of the game and not quality of life.
