How does Laylas on-board DSP factor into running software plug-ins?

0

In the current version of our driver, DirectX-based plug-ins operate on the host computers CPU, not on Laylas DSP. The Motorola 56301 is used for controlling the PCI bus, routing data through the system, calculating values for the average and peak metering, sample-rate conversion, and dithering. Our next-generation driver will support DirectX level II, and will feature a DSP operating system that allows plug-ins to operate directly on the DSP. When this driver is implemented, it will provide for real-time, non-destructive processing. A similar development path will be followed for the Macintosh platform.
