How does Krishna try to persuade Arjuna to accept his caste duties?
Performing his duty as a warrior was Arjuna’s path. There was no other path for him. He was trained from childhood as a great warrior, had a natural talent for it and had a duty to protect the nation from the tyrants fighting with Duryodhana. Due to a destructive attachment to his teachers and relatives, he was willing to let the side of injustice win for the sake of his unbalanced emotions. Therefore Krishna persuaded him that he must perform his duty for the welfare of the kingdom, and told him that these attachments are unwarranted because the people he was mourning for were only temporary forms; the true reality is eternal and cannot be killed.
