How does knowing physics help a coach?
It depends on the sport, but to tell you the truth (as both an athlete and a physicist), I’d say very little. Coaches (and experienced players) usually understand the physics of their game intuitively by feel and experience. They don’t break it down mathematically and logically as one would do in a physics problem. Maybe if you were coaching a bunch of little nerds, describing a technique in terms of physics concepts might help. But I doubt it. The only physics I can think of that would really help a coach (or especially a trainer) is kinesiology, which is the physics of the human body.
