How does killing a queen affect ant hill?
Sorry but none of these are quite correct. Unlike bees many ants (most of the more advanced species) have multiple queens in larger colonies. Thus if you kill one, it is of little consequence. This is in stark contrast to bees, wasps, and the more primitive ants such as the australian bulldog ants. Primitive ants ants, bees and wasps have one queen and if you kill the queen in these colonies then the colony will die. I used to dig up and study ants as a kid. Many times I have dug up ant colonies (to relocate them into an ant farm) and discovered multiple queens.
