How does JB feel about Wolverine as a solo character?
Did you ever feel interested in doing Wolverine as a solo character? JB: The issues I did of WOLVERINE, I did mostly for the chance to work with Archie Goodwin. He also felt that he didn’t have much to “say” with Wolverine, so when he left, I left. About six months later we got our royalty checks and asked each other “Why did we leave, again?” Wolverine, for me, works best when he is part of a group, so that he has something — the other characters — against which to be contrasted. Of course, since the brilliant new idea of so many writers these days seems to be to write everyone as Wolverine — well, there’s not much to contrast, is there?
