DOME is a technology platform that works within your environment with new and existing tool sets. By itself, it is not (yet) an industry standard but it is compatible with products that work within certain standards. OMG is focused on providing CORBA standards. The DOME technology uses CORBA for DOME server to DOME server communications . DOME plugins can talk to third party programs using a various protocols. For example, the SDRC’s I-DEAS CAD product is based on a CORBA implementation (SDRC is part of an OMG working group to ensure that Ideas provides an industry standard CORBA compliant interface) while programs such as excel are based upon COM. The DOME software is written in ANSI standard C++ and Sun’s Java 2 Platform. The research code is not planned to be certified with Sun s Pure Java program but it’s likely that commercial versions will undergo certification.
