How does it differ from the previous bus concession?
Before April 2008, local authorities were only required to provide free off-peak travel in their own area. In Kent, the districts have for some years worked together to operate the Kent Countywide Scheme to allow free off-peak travel for eligible residents throughout the county. The new schemeextended the concession so that eligible residents can travel during off-peak times anywhere in England. Historically, the Kent scheme has allowed pass holders to travel at any time after 9am. From 1 April 2008, this changed to the national requirement of 9.30am to achieve consistency across England. However, Kent County Council announced that from 30 June 2008 pass holders in Kent and Medway will again be able to travel free across the county from 9am.
