How does it compare to the air abrasion?
The laser is based on a fundamental scientific background. The laser targets the water at the surface of the tooth, causing the decayed tissue to vaporize. Air abrasion is like sand blasting where healthy tooth structure along with decay is removed as the abrasive particles abrade them. Soft decay is more resistant to air abrasion and often times require mechanical removal with dental instruments. The laser quickly and comfortably removes decay by vaporizing the water particles contained inside. Lasers are more effective and efficient at treating cavities. The laser won’t leave sand in your mouth either!
