How Does It Compare To Corrective Jaw Surgery?
Wisdom teeth surgery is pretty much a prerequisite to the whole corrective jaw surgery process, though it can be done before or during the actual operation. While there are some cases and surgeons that opt to perform the wisdom teeth extraction during the facial reconstructive surgery, most patients, myself included, have them done separately and a few months apart. For me, my maxillofacial surgeon removed my wisdom teeth first, several months before my actual orthognathic surgery. I loved the fact that my same surgeon performed both operations, because the wisdom teeth operation was kind of like a trial run for me. Everything went perfectly, so it only increased my trust and confidence in my surgeon for the “real thing” later on. The other reason I preferred to have my wisdom teeth taken out first is because I had never been put under before, and while you don’t have to be put completely under for this procedure, I opted to, so I would know more of what to expect on jaw surgery day.
