How does Iridium work?
Your outgoing call goes to an Iridium satellite orbiting overhead in a low earth orbit. That satellite passes your call directly to either an Iridium earth station or links to an earth station through other Iridium satellites. The earth station routes your call via normal terrestrial circuits to its destination any where in the world. Data calls are terminated in Chandler, Arizona and are passed through modems to the destination or connected to to the Internet via a high speed server.
