How does IRC compare to microcurrent electrocoagulation?
Dr. Mathis is experienced in doing both infrared coagulation (IRC) and microcurrent electrocoagulation for hemorrhoid disease. Microcurrent electrocoagulation requires much more actual treatment time than infrared coagulation, has more discomfort, costs more, and has not been shown to be more effective. With IRC, infrared light is applied for about 5-10 seconds; microcurrent electrocoagulation requires current application for six minutes or more. No anesthesia or other medications are necessary prior to, or during, Infrared Coagulation treatments. After IRC treatments, patients go right back to work.
