How does investing within a Roth IRA work?
It seems like you’ve gotten the correct answers above… so I’ll just add a couple of things… you did not mention ETFs as an investing instruments…do some reading on them ..they are like mutual funds, but trade instantly like stocks… there are no minimums… so if you have a good idea of what mutual fund you like…and the minimum still applies ( even in IRA) then you can find a very similar ETF and buy shares there ( there is a commission on trading ETFs , but most sites are around $10. so it won’t break the bank) I use Fidelity and E*trade…and both are very good…( good research tools and complete/understandable record-keeping)..I have been talking with a few people and they have recommended Scottrade, also…where even the smallest accounts get some pretty complete ” trading” tools. So if you think you’ll be more into ” trading” ( which is completely different than ” investing”…give Scott a look.
