How does Internet Telephony work?

0

Internet Telephony is based on packet switching, where the connection is shared instead of using a dedicated one such as PSTN. For a voice call to be sent via the data network, the voice needs to be converted into digital packets. To receive a call the digitalized signal needs to be converted back to an analog signal. For business users this convertion is usually done by their IP Phone or softphone. Once a call is made & has been converted to packets it will travel to its destination via an ITSP where it will converted back to analogue signal (or digital ISDN signal depending on destination) & sent to the required network once connected it will become a 2 way process.
