How does Indicare protect patient health information (PHI) from unauthorized viewing?

PHI is protected on several fronts: • End-User Access restriction Subscribers are provided with a limited number of access codes. PHI is seen only when the correct Pharmacy ID, User ID and Password are correctly entered. • Data Transmission Information traveling across the Internet is open to viewing. Indicare prevents this unauthorized viewing through the use of Verisign encryption. • The Indicare Servers are physically placed within a locked cage, accessible only via biometric access. • The Indicare Web server is physically separated from the Indicare SQL server, providing an additional layer of security from hackers. • PHS employees are required to sign patient confidentiality statements and understand the penalties for release of PHI.
