How does IDOT/DTS choose what applications are approved?
After the application is reviewed by a grant manager familiar with the specific program, the grant is then reviewed by the assigned program manager (ie., Bike/Ped, Occupant Protection, Alcohol, etc.). The Highway Safety Plan Committee evaluates recommendations from both the grant and the program manager. After a thorough review, the chosen grants are compiled in the highway safety plan. This document must be approved by the Governor’s Highway Safety Representative.
