How does hypnosis differ from deep guided meditation or psychotherapy?
Both meditation and psychotherapy involve working with the conscious mind. Because the conscious mind is concerned with maintaining order above all, it views change – even positive change – as a threat to that order it is trying to maintain. Although change does happen with meditation, it can be a slow process due to the resistence of the conscious mind. Hypnosis, on the other hand, bypasses the conscious mind to allow direct access to the subconscious mind where our true beliefs and automatic responses are stored. Because the subconscious mind accepts change more readily than the conscious mind, our limiting beliefs and the resulting behavior can be modified faster, easier, and more effectively than through conscious methods.
