How does HMWSSB care for Hyderabad s environment?
Rejuvenating the Hussainsagar: The Hussainsagar lake has its inflows from Picket nala, Kukatpally nala, Yousufguda nala, Balkapur nala and Banjara nala. Due to industralisation and urbanization the lake got polluted from the discharge of waste-water from industries and untreated domestic wastewater Diversion structures have been constructed on all these nalas to divert the dry weather flow into major pipelines laid under World Bank project. A 20 MLD STP was constructed in the reclaimed land of the lake. This treatment plant helps in maintaining the hydrology of the lake. The Biological Oxidation method is used for treating the influent. Treated sewage is suitable for lake discharge standards. Today Hussainsagar is in the process of regaining its lost glory, with lesser pollution and is the most sought after attraction for tourists and leisure seekers.
