How does Hinduism support the caste system in India?
The primary distinction about most Dharmic Religions that you must take into account with the concept of the caste system, is the fact that they believe in cyclical life (the continuous cycle of rebirth and redeath). In support of the caste system, they would see it as a practical solution to the problems of India. As far as human rights violations would go, they would not see such suffering as too great an issue, because of this cyclical life concept. They would also shuffle much of that responsibility off to Karma (which is essentially the culmination of all of ones actions of all of ones past lives). Karma of your past lives will place you into the proper caste/situation/perception, that you yourself have created over a multiplicity of pasts. They would also see it as maintaining Rita (the underlying cosmic order of the universe) by fulfilling their dharma (their duty to uphold that order), This dharma could be seen as upholding their familial and caste duties.
