How does HELP work with local communities?
BC has developed a network of local ECD coalitions that bring together, sometimes for the first time, sectors such as education, health, social services, child care and businesses to work together to make a difference for children and families in their community. These local coalitions are the lead users of the data and maps produced by the Mapping Unit. HELP works closely with them, assisting them in understanding and using the maps and in facilitating the use of research in local planning and coordination. A majority of BC communities are already using the EDI and socio-economic maps to work together in new ways to improve ECD programs and services in their communities. The BC Ministry of Children and Family Development (MCFD) has established Children First Initiatives across the province and is a key member of the ECD Provincial Partnership of Success by 6®, a partnership among credit unions, United Ways and MCFD throughout BC.
