How does helicopter sound compare with other sound?
The sound level of helicopters is far below that of many accepted noise-producers in our environment. Trains, lawn mowers, vacuum cleaners, motorcycles, planes, buses, trucks, boats, and cars all regularly produce noise levels higher than that which the average person would perceive when they hear a helicopter (see chart on preceding page). The modern, light, efficient, and much quieter civil helicopters that will be utilizing the Atlanta Metro Heliport are very different from older, heavier military helicopters.
