How does Halon Get Contaminated ?
Halon can become contaminated because CLEAN HALON is placed into a CONTAMINATED bottle. System charging hoses and equipment also has to be clean and dry. Some times there is no evidence of corrosion. Corrosion inside system bottle may occur if liquid water forms on top of Halon. Since water is less dense than Halon the liquid droplets of water stick to the metal surface inside the bottle. This liquid water, through HYDROLISYS can cause a ring of corrosion to form around the tube at the surface of Halon. If the corrosion to form goes through the tube can fall off inside the bottle or break off when the outlet valve opens. The pressurizing gas (Nitrogen) should also be checked for moisture content.
