How does GSEs LIQUEX™ technology work for oil sands?
Oil sands are mixed with GSE’s proprietary reagent, GSX™, in a simple mixing vessel at ambient pressure and temperature to dissolve the organic matter. Subsequently, the resultant mixture of liquid and particulate solids is conveyed to a filtering system to separate them. The liquid comprises mainly a homogeneous solution of organic matter and reagent as well as some water that is always present in oil sands; the particulate solids are composed mainly of sand and clay with trace amounts of bitumen and various heavy metals.
