How does glucagon work to reverse the effects of a beta blocker overdose?
According to www.drugs.com (which I use daily), glucagon: “Elevates blood glucose concentrations (by stimulating production from liver glycogen stores), relaxes smooth muscle of GI tract, decreases gastric and pancreatic secretions in GI tract, and increases myocardial contractility.” It speeds up the heart. Beta blockers slow the heart beat, lessen the force with which the heart muscle contracts, and reduce blood vessel contraction in the heart, brain, and throughout the body.
