How does Get Moving fight mental health stigma?

0

Get Moving challenges stigma by creating opportunities for social contact between people with and without experience of mental health problems. By having the opportunity to get to know someone who has experience of mental health problems, those without this type of experience have any negative beliefs they may hold challenged. Research has shown that direct interactions between people who have equal status, actively co-operating in the pursuit of a mutual goal, challenges discriminatory attitudes and behaviours. I think anything like Get Moving which increases contact has got to be a good thing. Sport is especially good at breaking down the ‘us’ and ‘them’ attitude that exists.
