How does George Orwells 1984 book compare to the movie?

You should ALWAYS read the book first, one of the great scourges of our age is that people see a film and think that they know the story it’s derived from. This is particularly common when the book is quite long, as 1984 is. They are nearly always abridged in some way and quite often bear no resemblance to the original book at all and people end up utterly clueless about the real story. That said, I found the John Hurt/Richard Burton film to be very good indeed…..it’s well done and is helped of course by excellent performances by both actors. You should still read the book though, by all means watch the film as well….but never watch a film instead of reading the book because you simply won’t get everything it has to offer.
