How does geo-targeting work?
Geo-targeting allows Yahoo! Search Marketing advertisers to target their ads to potential customers located or interested in particular geographic areas within the market selected for an account. It can consider a number of factors, such as the user’s search query or Internet Protocol (IP) address and other user information, to determine when to display your geo-targeted ads. Example: If your business sells real estate within the state of California and you select California as a geo-targeted region, your ads may be shown to potential customers located in California, as well as to search users who may be located outside of California but enter search terms such as “California Real Estate.
For each campaign you create, you have three options for geo-targeting your ads: throughout the entire market (e.g. United Kingdom and Ireland); to individual countries within your market (e.g. Scotland or Wales); or to one or more regions within a country (e.g. South Eastern England). Your ads will be displayed to users within the targeted regions you select, as well as to users located outside the targeted region but who show interest in your targeted regions.* For example, if you are a estate agent located in London and choose to geo-target your campaign to the South East England region, your ads will be displayed to prospective customers within the region, as well as to users outside the region who enter searches such as “London property”. *Please note that geo-targeting accuracy is not guaranteed and may vary depending on various factors, including the level of targeting selected.
Geo-targeting looks at factors such as the user’s search query or Internet Protocol (IP) address to determine when to display your ads. Example: If your business sells property in Yorkshire and you select Yorkshire as a geo-targeted region, your ads will be shown to potential customers located in Yorkshire, as well as to search users that may be located outside of Yorkshire but enter search terms such as “Yorkshire property.” *Please note that geo-targeting accuracy is not guaranteed and may vary depending on various factors, including the level of targeting selected.
