How does Fort Sam Houston benefit from volunteers?
Volunteers are the Heart of Fort Sam Houston. In 2002 there were 298,850 volunteer hours recorded. This computes to dollars that Fort Sam Houston saved. Without volunteers, many services would not be available to the Installation. Volunteers benefit by gaining job experience, receiving references for paid employment, and learning about additional resources available within our surrounding community. Volunteer Advisory Council (VAC) Membership in the Fort Sam Houston Volunteer Advisory Council (VAC) is available to any Fort Sam Houston private organization authorized by the Installation Commander and any military organization or agency that uses volunteers.
