How Does Fire Affect SIPs?
In order for a fire to ignite, three elements are required: fuel, ignition and oxygen. SIP panels minimize the oxygen element. SIP panels have no air space within their solid core thus creating an airtight building structure that minimizes the amount of oxygen available to feed a fire, and in turn, minimizes burn time. The EPS core also includes a fire retardant substance as part of its chemical makeup. SIP wall panels have passed every Standard Fire Test required in Wood Based Construction. Drywall for fire code is installed right on top of the interior OSB facing of the SIP.
