How does filling out the Health and Lifestyle Information Survey (HLIS) benefit CF members?
The HLIS is the only population health survey of CF members. Statistic Canada conducts a similar survey of the general Canadian population every two years but CF members living on CF bases are specifically excluded. The information is needed to plan health promotion, disease control, and health care delivery programs in the CF. The last HLIS was in 2004 and it provided a lot of useful information. It identified an injury rate among CF members twice that of the Canadian population when compared equally by age and sex. This has justified the heavy investment in psychotherapy services which has been made. CF members visit psychotherapists much more than the general Canadian population. This evidence has also led to initiatives to try and identify the more common injuries to ensure we are doing all we can do in the area of prevention.
